Strong Retail Sales

  • The dollar climbed to its highest level in over a month after a strong U.S. retail-sales.
  • Retail sales advanced 1.3% in April, topping economists’ expectations and marking the best monthly gain since March 2015.
  • Analysts think the dollar could see a “sustained move higher” if coming economic data is strong and Fed officials continue to signal that a rate increase is on the table.
  • The buck slipped 0.3% against the Japanese yen to ¥108.66 as investors sought out assets seen as safe.
